Abstract The purpose of this research is to analyze the characteristics of spatial use and the living activities of the elderly in Japanese care house planed by spatial composition of the small sized residential units; and the research draws the characteristics of architectural design about residential environment that support the affluent the living activities of the elderly. In order to observe the elderly’s activities in three different types of residential units this investigation was progressed by two times, October 2005, June 2006. The research compares and analyzes characteristics that are the physical environment and distinction of caring way by the living activities of the elderly based on place, frequency, activities, context, etc. The following is the result. In order to encourage to diverse the living activities depended on their own lifestyle it is required to ingenious spatial design with which to introduce programs being sense of quotidian.
