Abstract Recent super-tall buildings have shown various types of free-form shapes. Their envelop forms seem crucial especially in schematic design phase since they respond to the diverse external demands such as symbolic aspects and expression of skyscrapers, or basic building codes and regulations. This study have developed an automation system for the envelop form generation, and examined the system by generating sample envelop forms. For this, types of forms and parameters were derived from preceding researches and examples. The study implemented the automation system which could be linked up with other parametric digital tools. The system could generate various envelop forms of super-tall buildings through parametric methods. With this, designers would be able to examine possible envelop forms in front of their eyes, and make a rational decision promptly.
