Abstract Recent apartment house tend to be built under energy saving policy which leads to high-pressurized and high-insulated one. As a result, natural ventilation reduced and interior air pollution gets critical due to volatile organic compounds or formaldehyde from chemical interior finish. Accordingly, this study intend to investigate the reduction effect of formaldehyde density before and after by introducing 4 kinds of garden plants into the bedrooms and living room of newly built apartment house. As a result, the concentration of formaldehyde before garden plants introduction shows 2.7~5.2 times higher than 0.1?, Korean Environmental Standards, which requires appropriate countermeasures. After introducing 4 kinds of garden plants, the concentration of formaldehyde reduced 28%~80%. However, as another result of introducing garden plants, the concentration of CO₂increased 5%~12% after sunset.
