Abstract Recently, curtain wall system has been applied to much more high rise buildings because of its convenience of construction. However, inside surface condensation on the curtain wall systems still has been a problem. The aim of this study is to suggest design criteria to prevent inside surface condensation on the curtain wall systems of office buildings. A variety of criteria including codes, standards and specifications of Korea and other countries were analyzed and the lowest temperature factor of 0.7 for Seoul was suggested as design criteria. In case of thermally-broken aluminum framed curtain wall system, it was shown that double glazing with soft low-e coating, argon gas, thick-walled plastic spacer and triple glazing with thick-walled plastic spacer could meet the design criteria.
