Abstract The glass curtain wall system is widely used in modern high-rise buildings. It is important to improve thermal performance of curtain walls to improve energy efficiency in buildings. In this paper, international standards were analyzed to evaluate the thermal performance of curtain walls including calculation standards as well as experimental standards. The thermal transmittance of three curtain wall design alternatives were calculated according to the single assessment method, length-related component assessment method, and area-related component assessment method specified in EN 13947. Laboratory tests were also conducted on three curtain wall test specimens according to KS 2278. The calculated and measured results showed good overall agreement. The results show that the calculation method can be commonly used to evaluate the thermal performance of curtain wall systems.
