Abstract The National Architectural Policy Plan 2007 has had a significant influence on the discussion of improving design and management processes of public architecture in Korea. Subsequently studies have highlighted the underlying inefficiencies of the design and management system attributing its problems to the lack of design expertise, bureaucratic design management process and inconsistent delivery of projects etc. Hence the need for a central body which supervises the overall design process and management of public facilities was established. This study investigates four design advisory and management organizations - CABE England, MIQCP France, the Public Buildings Service US, and the Senate Properties Finland - in terms of their main objectives, function, programs and organizational structure. Through this comparative study the article aims to identify common approaches to improving the design and management processes amongst these disparate systems, and provide a basis for formulating a general direction appropriate in the Korean administrative context.
