Abstract Recently, along with the economic growth, population concentration in the city, and the improvement of living standards, demand for water is dramatically increasing. Also, as the life styles are westernized, household water use tends to increase as well. According to the waterwork statistics (2010), water for household purpose was the most as 3,113 million ㎥(65.9%), and occupied the biggest part of it. Therefore, even when the cut-off in case of emergency is assumed, emergency water service for households will be needed the most among them. For the efficient emergency water service, it is necessary to alter the quality and supply amount of water and also supply methods according to the types of demand for the emergency water service. Thus, in order to calculate the capacity of the emergency water service facility and establish the supply system, it will be needed to analyze the types of demand for the emergency water service by the usage of buildings in advance. Thereupon, this study conducted a survey to the people living in residential buildings so as to figure out the types of demand for the emergency water service in the residential buildings and also suggest the unit for use and necessary capacity for each usage by applying the expert survey and the hierarchy analysis method of AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process).
