Abstract The purpose of this study is to provide the required basic data and suggestions when creating guidelines for sidewalk-cafes. Therefore, in this study, design elements of sidewalk-cafes have been derived and importance of each design element has been analyzed mainly in the differences between the recognition of experts and users. As a result, first, awareness, interest, utilization, and importance of experts were higher than that of the user's. Second 'Aesthetics' was a design element that was considered as the most important by users and 'aesthetics', 'accessibility', 'identity' were design elements those were considered as important by the experts. Third five factors such as 'accessibility', 'aesthetics', 'identity', 'convenience', and 'environmental' had been derived factor analysis of users, and 'environmental', 'identity', 'accessibility', and 'aesthetics' had been derived factor analysis of experts. Finally the results of a regression analysis of full-importance and importance of specific design factors showed that important factors of users were 'aesthetics', 'accessibility', 'convenience', and important factors of experts were 'accessibility', 'identity', 'aesthetics'. Thus, the importance of users was located on the side to use sidewalk-cafes. On the other hand, the importance of experts was located on the side of the placeness and revitalization of the street.
