Abstract |
Korean evangelical churches have adopted contemporary worship style from the U.S. to reach out to non-Christian and young generation since the late 1980s, This movement resulted more churches grown as mega churches and demands for mega worship space have been raised. However, mega worship space need to resolve functional problems due to the size, and contemporary worship style also requires new functional needs from its program. To understand these needs and requirements, six American mega worship spaces were selected as precedents and analyzed in three main components of space; room shape, seating area, and stage. As a result, we found out the characteristics of the three main components influenced by the size of worship room and contemporary worship style. For example, room shapes were formed to reduce the overall size, seating was arranged to enhance the contemporary worship, and stages were sized to accommodate the large number of performers for new worship style. The results will also be valuable resources for future mega worship space development in Korea. |
