Abstract The building construction industry has the highest death rate related to fire accidents occurred during urethane foam works. In order to quantify the risk of urethane foam works in construction phase, several large scale fire experiments has done for discovering the ignitability and flame spread rate of the urethane foam in a compartment room. Consequently, an oxygen-welding flame is not easy to ignite the surface of urethane foam due to its self-extinguishment ability. Nevertheless, if the urethane foam surface was ignited by pool-pan flame touch, flame has proved to spread very fast along neighboring surfaces in a compartment. Because flame spread rate of urethane foam was very high, other instant endeavor for extinguishment has proved being useless in fire accident site. Therefore effective protection method has designed to prevent fire on the urethane foam surface and its ability was tested by large scale experiments by pool-pan flame. Consequently, vermiculite plaster covering method surface of urethane foam has proved to be best way when it comes to preventing fire in site.
