Abstract The purpose of this study is to inquire into the actual states and recognition characteristics on the temporal changes of residential and sound environments in a region. It was analyzed the aspects and characteristics of attitude changes on the residential and sound environments of the residents in Namwon city in a span of ten years through the results of questionnaire survey in 2001/2002 and 2011. The importance of amenity factors in relation to satisfaction of residential environments emerged as sanitation conditions in 2001 and housing structure in 2011, and the estimation of these two factors were lowered in 2011 than 2001. The importance of impression factors in relation to satisfaction of residential environments emerged as health in 2001 and 2011. The estimation of health and vitality factors were lowered in 2011 while intimacy was highered. The consciousness on regional development through the residents participation were expanded to a higher level from infrastructure and urban/housing environments to natural environments, festive occasion and cultural welfare. Analysis on the comparative importances of sound groups rated compatible with the surroundings showed that the residents set store by sound environment expressing regional characteristics such as traditional environment sound and working environment sound in 2002, and natural environment sound, traditional environment sound and local environment sound in 2011.
