Abstract |
Vinyl greenhouse, a lattice framed arch built with thin steel tubes covered with sheets of vinyl, is the most widely accepted greenhouse in Korea reaching 500km2 of land coverage. The popularity based on the economic advantage, a result of utilizing cheapest material available always runs the risk of collapse at winter snow storm season. Korean government has set up standard vinyl greenhouse models in increased strength, which proved, however, to bear almost no fruit followed by endless cases of collapse. Introducing space frame consists of typical vinyl greenhouse structural members, this alternative design enables increase strength by 240% of existing model with only 5% increase of combined steel member length. Considering the poor construction quality at market, this design also focused on the minimum variant of inclined member length as well as the control of shaded area, the most important factor to consider in greenhouse design. Joint member to tie bent frames and purlins are to also socket inclined members attached with various angles. This design suggests the joint member configuration conjugating the inclined members into already combined bent frames and purlins. |
