Abstract Concrete produced with admixtures, such as ground granulated blast-furnace slag(GGBS), which has a low CO2 emission base unit, is frequently used in Korea for active studies on the decrease of CO2 emissions in the cement/concrete industry. However, the CO2 emission base unit for admixtures such as GGBS and fly ash(FA) has not yet been developed in Korea. Therefore, this study developed a CO2 emission to meet the domestic situation base unit for GGBS in accordance with the LCA technique in ISO 14044 regulation. Also, GGBS production company was selected in Korea and assessed life cycle CO2 emission. As a result, life cycle CO2 emission of GGBS has been assessed as 0.0418kg-CO2/kg. In total CO2 emission, manufacturing step was the highest percentage and the electric power of the manufacturing step accounted about 43% of the total CO2 emission. And raw material step and transportation step has been 17%, 8% of the total CO2 emission. Also, CO2 emission of GGBS concrete mixture according to increased strength showed a tendency to increase.
