Abstract The construction activities has been perceived to be one of the largest contributors to pollution, with several environmental loads such as construction waste, noise, and land use. The environmental impacts of these diverse loads need to be estimated for more holistic environmental management of construction sites. The evaluation results obtained through a combination of various environmental loads depend on which loads are chosen for evaluation indicators; therefore, the validation of the assessment tool is crucial. In existing studies that deal with environmental assessments in the construction operation phase, the decisions to select the indicators are still largely based on anecdotal methods, for instance, based on a literature review or the opinion of a consultant, and hence, these indicators cannot be validated. In this study, we survey content validity ratio, conduct exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, and verify the content validity and construct validity. The resultant list of environmental performance indicators provides standard assessment tool for a more holistic environmental assessment in the construction operation phase.
