Abstract The relationship between a building and its architectural images acquires new mechanism in modern architecture. Faked and manipulated images tend to be used regardless of their substances to get more influential effect for various purposes. The reading and interpretation of these images are also biased and subjective. In this context, this study explores the relationship between architectural images and their substances, and the meaning of this modern phenomenon based on the spread of modern architectural movement and its commodification. Therefore it shows the way architectural images reflect a certain desire and function as the potential media producing new substances.
