Abstract The purpose of this study is to present energy-saving measures that can improve residents' home environments and reduce energy consumption at the construction planning stage. This was achieved through a survey of the actual energy consumption at the various stages of an apartment's operation. According to the survey of apartments' actual energy consumption, the amounts of energy used for room heating and electricity accounted for larger percentages of energy consumption compared to other items. Among the units, those with larger areas consumed more energy. Furthermore, those facing south consumed 15% less energy on average compared to those facing east or northeast, and medium/low-rise apartments consumed less energy compared to high-rise apartments. With respect to the shapes of apartments, plate types were identified as being more advantageous compared to tower types in terms of energy consumption.
