Abstract |
The Buk-Hang bridge, to be completed mid 2014, is drawing interest for its potential to reduce traffic load in the inner city area by completing a full circular road along the waterfront. The object of this study is to analyze the space-structural impact that the bridge can have on the city's urban spatial structure. In doing so, this study utilizes the axial map analysis of the Space Syntax theory with the analysis being conducted upon three scenarios: pre-completion of the Buk-Hang bridge, post-completion of the Buk-Hang bridge, and finally with all the bridges along the circular road removed. By using the Choice Value, appropriate for analyzing traffic efficiency, it was found that the completion of the bridge is expected to reduce traffic loads on the city's major roads but also with partially increased traffic loads on other roads. In sum, this study contributes in forecasting the feasibility of Busan's transport-logistic infrastructure. |
