Abstract This paper aims at developing a three-dimensional numerical model of a single ground heat exchanger that would be enough to handle the heating and cooling loads of low-energy houses. As a reduced model (Linear Aggregation Method) previously developed is not yet sufficiently efficient in computation, some simplification schemes are newly proposed for the coupling of sub-zone models that are obtained from domain sub-structuring, which was mandatory to use the reduction method. The proposed model is compared to a reference model and the well-known existing model DST. Results from the 3-D numerical model implemented in Dymola are in a good agreement with the reference models, within a range of 0.2℃ in difference, and the computation efficiency is much enhanced with the proposed simplifications.
