Abstract |
In this study, a double beam system was proposed to reduce the deflection of reinforced concrete beams. The system consists of two small size beams and a drop panel. The proposed method took into account the effect of a drop panel placed at the center of the continuous beam. Because the drop panel increases the negative moment of the beam, but decreases the positive moment of the beam, it is expected that the drop panel might reduce the deflection of continuous beams. Five reinforced concrete continuous beams were tested. The main parameters of specimens were the length and width of drop panel. Test results indicated that the drop panel reduced the deflection of continuous beams. The deflection of the continuous beams with a drop panel was 24. 5 percent less than that of the beams without a drop panel. The deflection of continuous beams was decreased with the increase of the length of drop panel. |
