Abstract |
Widening of a road as a part of urban planning has focused solely on widening of a road with its original purpose being improvement of urban traffic and pedestrian environment. As a result, its impact on the environment was overlooked. Road-widening at city center should be undertaken with consideration into its effect on the street surroundings and streetscapes of the city. Thus, the study identified problems that may arise in urban commercial streets in widening of a road and its impact on the street surroundings, seeking for architectural approaches on the renewal of urban commercial streets. The study attempted to identify the phenomena after the expansion with the sites that widening of a road was undertaken and to suggest an alternative in the renewal of urban commercial streets through direct involvement from beginning to end of the projects. |
