Title Child-friendly Design Factors for Children's Hospital Planning

Abstract The environments of children's hospitals in Korea are face to meet the children patients' needs as to the increase of numbers of the facilities and universal interests in the child care. This study aims to propose the planning factors of children's hospitals on the children's perspectives. The factors related to designing children's environments were cautiously reviewed and reproduced for the medical facilities and the child-friendly design factors of three children's hospitals were analyzed based on the factors. The results are as follows. (1) the design factors to support the development of children are Comfort, Privacy, Safety, Pleasure, Accessibility, Interaction, Rest, Aesthetics, and Dynamic. (2) The spaces of hospitals are classified as a lobby, a waiting area, a patient's clinic, a family lounge, a garden, a corridor and an ward. (3) The significant design factors in each spaces have 'Pleasure' and 'Aesthetics' in common.
