| Abstract |
3 waste tunnels that are out of use nowadays are located between Daejeon and Jeungyak. These waste tunnels were completed in 1904 and are called 'The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Jeungyak Tunnel'. A stone plaque(額石) engraved with 'Akshinkyungbun(嶽神驚奔)' is installed at the entrance of the '1st Jeungyak Tunnel,' and it was written by a Japanese diplomat of the time, named 'Hayashi Gonsuke.' This study intended to examine the construction process of 'Jeungyak Tunnel' and implications of the 'Hayashi Gonsuke's stone plaque' and to verify that the tunnel and stone plaque are very valuable 'railway cultural heritage' that supports 'historical fact' and 'incidents' of how Japanese Empire carried forward a construction of Seoul-Busan Line by ignoring religion, culture, and human rights of Koreans and the fact that it is a historic site. |
