Abstract The purpose of this study is to analyze proposed the improvement plan of space-program of public space and mechanical/electrical/equipment area in general hospital. We were researched the chronological changes of total floor area plan of public space and mechanical/Electrical/Equipment area. In addition, compared to space-program and actual design drawings of recently general hospitals. Analyze the trend and characteristic of changes in the general hospital area ratio. The results are as follows. The gross to net ratio was set at 1.45-1.55 but increased to 1.53-1.64 in actual drawings. Thus the total floor area increased or net floor area decreased to secure public area, which means the public area planning suggested by the space program cannot accommodate the public space, vertical circulation and facility space required in the modern medical environment. Thus there is a need to reflect the recent trend, above 1.60. Machine/electricity rooms are judged to be planned above 15% of the total floor net area. However, the suggested standards are the required area at the present moment, which requires continued tests and supplement.
