Abstract This study has conducted the analysis on newly-built rural 'Hanok' within eight cities and counties in Kyungsangnam-do region for the past twenty years. First we distinguished between rural and non-rural areas with flat type and Hotjip and Gyeopjip, and analyzed to investigate the area property. Second, we conducted the primary analysis and affinity for the Hanok Living Conditions. Third, despite the recent new construction, extension cases were investigated and analyzed to the target with respect to extension property and resident needs. It shows relation between lifestyle and residential space of owners as well as conclusions below. As a result of research on average number resident per household, ages as well as average occupied area per person, this study has realized that most of the rural household were aged and their living environment were in inferior status. Preference on 'Hanok' mostly resided in its healthy and stable aspect. According to this research, this study has concluded that sitting-living has settled as a universal living style. However, as size of 'Hanok' gets bigger, standing-living has increased due to wider movement channel and distance. Finally, there were also 35% of building extension cases. The reasons of extension followed by securing interior finishing work(25%), multipurpose room and restroom(18%) as well as boiler room(13%). The pattern of extension work variously showed seven cases of eaves, eight cases of partition as well as eight cases of mixed methods.
