Abstract |
This study is confirming the correlation between the change of site plan and movement of waterway in the temple area of the Iksan Mireuksa temple in the late Goryeo dynasty. It has the purpose to focus on the cause and period of the change of the waterways in relation with site relocation. The results are written below. First of all, the period of the movement of waterways were happening from the Mid-Goryeo to Late-Goryeo dynasty. This could be verified by analysis and comparison between the site arrangement plan in the Late Goryeo dynasty and the cadastral map drawn in 1915. Secondly, the waterway which was shifted to the center of the temple made the temple site smaller. As the temple site was reduced to west, the central axis of the site was moved to the west of original temple site. In addition, the living area of the monks was moved to the northern side of the temple site. Third, the movement of waterways resulted from the underground topography of the 'V-shaped' valley. While constructing of the Mireuksa temple, the waterways was shifted to eastern side. But waterways was moved to the center of the temple site along the geographic features of the underground topography. This movement of waterways has made a change of the arrangement plan in the Mireuksa temple. |
