Abstract |
The Radiant Ceiling Panel (RCP) is a type of radiant cooling system that uses a ceiling as a radiant surface for radiant heat exchange. The RCP has advantages of energy saving and reduced size of blow fans due to the reduced distribution energy. Also, it is not affected by interior partitions or zoning. Today, an increasing interest is being shown to extend the application of RCP, in order to save on the initial investment cost and to avoid the use of HVAC systems that cause uncomfortable air flow. To make use of these advantages, it is important to evaluate the cooling capacity of RCP according to the panel type. Until now, design guidance from the panel manufacturers is used to apply panels on the building. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the cooling performance of various types of RCP by calculation and experimental method. The types of RCPs are categorized and representative panels are selected for evaluation. Also, the thermal resistance method and experimental methodology are organized based on the international standards. A test cell that is capable of maintaining the wall temperature constantly is set for the experimental method. From the calculation result, we can predict the cooling capacity of RCP which is verified with the experimental result. |
