Abstract This study aims to strengthen the crime prevention aspects of the Design Guidelines of Maeulmandeulgi considering that a single-family housing area is vulnerable to crime. For this, CPTED Guidelines published in Korea were analyzed to derive CPTED principles by each design factor of the single-family housing. The Design guidelines used in the projects of Maeulmandeulgi were evaluated as the linkages with principles of CPTED, and the results were qualitatively analyzed. In addition, amendments and supplement points were derived by comparing these and CPTED guidelines as studied before. As a result, the Design Guidelines of Maeulmandeulgi covering the design techniques analogous to the methods of CPTED guidelines in many ways. Especially, these are more practical to be utilized since these guidelines address useful ways to apply to the whole village and techniques available only when a village community was formed. However several methods need to be revised; the items running counter to the principles of CPTED and the methods which insufficient compared with CPTED guidelines.
