Abstract In this study, the structural performance of rafters under long-term weathering damage were evaluated by experiments. Contrary to the previous study, where the residual structural performance were evaluated by experiments on small size specimens, in this study, the more field oriented results were extracted by performing experiments on actual size rafters. The actual size rafters were classified as five categories under visual inspection according to their weathering damage, and flexural bending tests were performed on them. The flexural stiffness of rafters were extracted by measuring loading and deflection values during loading tests, and calculating the minimum second moment of inertia of cross sectional area and evaluating elastic modulus. The structural performance of actual size rafters showed similar results to those of the small size specimens by and large, but the variation among rafters of different grade were somewhat smaller than the previous specimen results. This can be deduced that the actual size rafters are not much influenced by the local weathering damages. The residual flexural stiffness of actual size rafters of grade A and B were over 80% and thought can be reused, but that of the grade C, D and E were under 65% and thought cannot be reused.
