Abstract This study aims to identify problems which can be encountered in international urban development projects, especially in urban design process, and to propose the solutions to the problems. For this, surveys and interviews of experts who have performed international urban design projects were conducted. According to the surveys and interviews, the main problems in international urban design projects are the lack of basic information about the foreign country and the shortage of capital. To solve these problems, first, all the basic information which is essential for the projects has to be collected and managed by public sector, and provided to those who try to work on the projects at a proper time. Second, the public sector has to support the projects in terms of diplomacy, policy, and finance. Especially, it is very important for the public sector to fund the projects in order to make the projects successful.
