Abstract |
Recently, some complaints, associated with excessive heating loads as well as occurrence of dew condensation and molds in military residential installments, have been filed by military families because of insufficient housing insulation. The territory of South Korea is classified with Central, Southern, and Jeju zone in accordance with the Korean Energy Saving Design Standards. Most military units are in the frigid cold areas such as Chelwon, Hwachen and etc. unlike Seoul, Yongin and etc. in which the intense of cold is relatively mild. However, these cities are identically appertained to the Cental zone and should follow monolithic insulation standards. This study aims to provide the realistic insulation guidelines which could be applied to the military residential facilities, in particular for the frigid areas. For doing this, the Central zone is sub-divided into some detail regions with cluster analysis based on the heating degree day, which is derived with using 10 years climate data observed by the Meteorological Administration. And then, housing insulation effects using the energy performance simulation are assessed with reference to the various heating transmission coefficients and heating loads of residential facilities in the sub-divided regions. According to the results, the difference of adiabatic heating loads in each sub-region is about 10 to 30%. This results should be reflected to ensure sufficient thermal insulation of the military residential facilities in the frigid area. According to the Green Building Construction Support Law, military facilities should follow provisions specified in the Korean Energy Saving Design Standards because they are also public buildings. This study could be one of the paragons to follow government policies associated with the building energy saving through enhancing insulation level of military residential facilities as well as contributed to improve the quality of military residential facilities. |
