Abstract This study evaluated the barrier free(BF) levels and finds improvement measures for the historic-cultural streets in urban regeneration districts. Based on the concepts of BF, the study selected historic-cultural streets the scopes and items of evaluation. The BF evaluation took into consideration the primary and secondary transportation vulnerable users. The results of BF evaluation based on the primary transportation vulnerable users show that there were some significant achievements in the BF aspect in Hwaseomun-ro and Haenggung-ro where the streets environment arrangement project was carried out. But Shinpung-ro left much to be desired in the BF aspect. The results of BF evaluation considered the secondary transportation vulnerable users point to several problems(limitation of mobility due to excessive facilities installed in the pedestrian safety areas in the streets, entrance and exit in public facilities. etc.). Based on the results of BF evaluation, the study proposed improvement measures for a short-, long-term purpose by taking urgency, effectiveness, and economy into consideration to build a strategic foundation to raise the BF level of target streets effectively in the future.
