Abstract Since the 1960s when new structure system and construction materials and technology developed, tall buildings saw a boom again. High-rise and multi-purpose tall buildings brought office and residences together in city centers. Tall buildings expanded from the US to the Middle East and Asia during the 1990s, and became symbolic landmarks in different countries and cities. As more the irregular shaped tall buildings in various forms have been built, now the competition is focused on the form rather than the height. However, still, many the irregular shaped tall buildings projects are cancelled due to financial issues and difficulty in construction. In order to respond to these problems, it is necessary to design the irregular shaped tall buildings in a systematic and rational manner, reviewing all elements in the plan without interfering with the original concept and resolving problems with structure and construction. The purpose of this study is examine reasonable design process and propose a plan for the irregular shaped tall buildings. The result can provide important basic data for planning irregular shaped tall buildings by reviewing details that need to be considered in advance and effectively responding to problems expected from construction of the irregular shaped tall buildings. Also, future research will be developed by using parametric tools in order to satisfy elements for reasonable planning of the irregular shaped tall buildings.
