Abstract A variety of building envelope design parameters effect on the building energy efficiency. These may have a positive or negative effect on reduction of building energy consumption according to regional climate conditions. The purpose of this study is to develop an evaluation and alternative searching method of building envelope design parameters for the early stage of architectural design, considering building heating, cooling, and lighting energy use. For this purpose, we calculated energy uses of an office building through EnergyPlus simulations, with various cases with window-to-wall ratios(WWR), solar heat gain coefficients(SHGC), thermal transmittances of walls and windows, shading types, projection factors, location of external shadings, and regions. Multi-variate regressions were conducted between building energy uses and these envelope parameters based on these results, and equations for predicting energy uses were developed. Based on these equations, the evaluation and alternative searching method of building envelope design parameters was developed. Through the several case studies for 5 regions, the applicability of this process was investigated and verified.
