Abstract Earthuquake of Richter magnitude scale 5.8 occurred on September 12, 2016 at 08:32:54(KST) in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea. It is the largest earthquake since records began in 1978. Seismic vibration was felt all over the nation. Peak ground acceleration(PGA) was the strongest at USN station(350.5gal) among 3 stations within a 20km radius of the epicenter. In this study, the wave characteristics of Gyeongju earthquake is analyzed using the method of response spectra and FFT(Fast Fourier Transform). Also, earthquakes of similar Richter magnitude to Gyeongju earthquake and huge earthquake records causing life and property damage in the past year were collected from all nations of the world for comparison analysis with Gyeongju earthquake. Through this result, the wave characteristics of Gyeongju earthquake were investigated and influence of structural damage was analyzed.
