Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to determine characteristics of Hakgang residential district which was one of the three important residential districts during the Japanese colonial period. Hakgang residential district was developed as a high-grade residential area for the upper middle class Japanese people by Japanese individuals and a development company. In Hakgang residential district, western-style houses were built made of wood and brick in the latest fashion, but still had Japanese-style housing plan and modified Korean-style ondol heating system inside. It reveals lots of differences with Hanok districts where Korean traditional houses were built. |
