Abstract |
This paper demonstrates our researched methodology to translate a building information model into an object-oriented physical modeling(OOPM)-based building energy model (BEM) for building energy simulation. The proposed approach (BIMOOPMBEM) has been investigated by adopting a data modeling method to support seamless model translations including building geometry, materials, and building topology. The data modeling enables us to create a model view definition (MVD) containing a process model and a class diagram. The process model explains object-mapping between a BIM and an OOPM-based BEM (OOPMBEM) and enables the definition of required information during model translations. The class diagram represents the required information and object relationships to create a exchange model view to create BIM-based OOPMBEMs. The implementation of the wrapper and interface class in the exchange model view using Modelica and object-oriented programing language enables the developed system interface to automatically create BIM-based OOPMBEMs. In order to demonstrate and validate our approach, we conducted simulation result comparisons through a test case using (1) automatically created a BIM-based OOPMBEM from the system interface and (2) OOPMBEM manually created using adopted LBNL Modelica Buildings Library. Our implementation presented that BIMOOPMBEM enables a BIM to be translated into an OOPMBEM by automatically creating a BIM-based OOPMBEM and the directly reuse of original BIM data into building thermal simulation. |
