Abstract In general, building hardware is needed to attach exterior materials like panels and bricks to the structure, which is usually accompanied with welding work. However, welding work could have the possibilities of fire and consequent secondary damage by weld zone breakdown caused by earthquake or wind load. Therefore, this study is to compare and investigate the adaptation of non-welded cruciform bracket building hardware. To do this, We conducted actual formation shake table test with the welded and non-welded building hardware, and analyzed the horizontal displacement following ability through displacement response results. To do the test, We made the 2m-high framework, attached cruciform bracket building hardware and welded building hardware to its both sides, and applied EL Centro earthquake wave to it. The result of analyzing the responses with increasing earthquake wave acceleration rate showed that 40mm displacement corresponding to allowable relative story displacement II occurred when 300% acceleration rate was applied. The result of the test showed that in case of the cruciform bracket building hardware there were no problems like the big deformation or breakage on the building hardware, but there were cracking and breakage on welded connections of welded building hardware. Also, it was verified that cruciform bracket building hardware followed horizontal displacement of the structure more.
