Abstract The aim of this study is to propose the more reasonable and more comprehensive method than existing methods to predict the optimal core outrigger position in high-rise building. To attain this goal, a 54 existing analysis data about the optimal position of core outrigger system were analyzed and studied. In this analysis data, the major parameters were the outrigger stiffness, the shear wall stiffness, the stiffness of column linked in outrigger, the stiffness of frame, lateral stiffness ratio between rigid frame and shear wall, and so on. This research made a proposal concerning the method of predicting the optimum core outrigger position reflecting the effect of frame stiffness. Also the research results presented in this paper offered the valuable data of structural design for looking for the optimal location of outrigger system in high-rise building.
