Abstract The Exhibition “Parallel of Life and Art”, held by Alison and Peter Smithson, Nigel Henderson and Eduardo Paolozzi, is one part of the early Brutalism discourse with House in Soho and Hunstanton middle school. The 122 unfamiliar image panels were hung in the exhibition, ICA in London. The editors of the exhibition, selected and arranged images and there were certain ‘photographic image system’. This system constructs a series of cross relationships and creates ‘the new landscape’. This study analyses Smithsons’ discussions on Parallel of Life and Art, especially with ‘Document 53’, and examines how the exhibition worked as a manifesto for the New Brutalism.
