Abstract |
Nampo-Eupseong (藍浦邑城) was a government office located in Nampo-hyeon (藍浦縣) during the Joseon Dynasty, now known as
Eupnae-ri, Nampo-myeon, Boryeong-si. Currently, the fortress is undergoing renovation as part of Boryeong-si’s preservation project, with
surrounding areas inside and outside the fortress acquired for this purpose. Of the original Joseon-era government buildings, only Dongheon,
Sammun, and Jinseo Pavilion (鎭西樓) remain, while the others have been demolished. This study focuses on locating and reconstructing
Kaeksa (客舍), a guesthouse and key government building in Nampo-hyeon. A 4-stage cadastral analysis from a previous study (Kim
Myeong-rae, 2014) was used to examine the site’s changes over 100 years. Interviews with alumni of Nampo Elementary School from the
1950s and 1960s, when Kaeksa served as a school building, along with a field survey, aided in identifying its location and structure. Photos
from informants and 1932 newspaper images revealed that Kaeksa followed a standard architectural type, helping to clarify its external
appearance. These findings confirm the location and structure of Kaeksa, offering valuable insights into its design. The study provides useful
data for any future restoration plans for the government buildings of Nampo-Eupseong. |
