Abstract |
Mungyeong Bongamsa, founded in 879, is a historic temple with restricted public access, which has led to limited knowledge of its
Geungnakjeon Hall among outsiders. While Geungnakjeon is commonly believed to date back to the 18th century, some historical records and
architectural features suggest that it may have been established during the transitional period between the late Goryeo and early Joseon
Dynasties. This study investigates the interior Dancheong of Geungnakjeon, an aspect that has not been sufficiently explored. Through
comparative analysis, the study summarizes the distinctive and shared features of the interior painting. The findings reveal that the interior
Dancheong of Geungnakjeon incorporates characteristics of early Joseon as well as elements found in palace-style paintings, while also
featuring unique patterns not found elsewhere. This discovery suggests that the Dancheong of Geungnakjeon is not merely an aesthetic
element but also reflects the architectural and cultural context of its time, providing valuable insights into the historical and artistic
significance of the temple. |
