Abstract |
In October 2021, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) published EN 16165:2021, consolidating 27 slip test methods into four
main categories: the ramp (Barefoot, Shod), pendulum, and tribometer tests. In contrast, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
recognizes only the BOT-3000E as a flooring slip tester, while ASTM International has approved two types of testers: the James machine
and British pendulum testers. In Japan, the inclined-tension-type slip tester (O-Y-PSM) is widely used. These slip testers are referenced in the
Korean Industrial Standards (KS) for various flooring products; however, the latest updates regarding their publication, revision, and
withdrawal are not adequately reflected. This study reviews the current trends in the standardization of slip test methods, as promoted by key
countries, with the aim of advancing test evaluation technology. Additionally, this research examines the relationship between different types
of slip testers based on existing studies. The findings reveal minimal correlation between the measurements of different slip testers,
complicating the ability to share slip safety evaluation results across platforms. Consequently, it is recommended that flooring materials be
selected based on evaluations from at least two different slip testers to ensure user safety. |
