Abstract |
The construction industry consistently experiences high rates of workplace accidents, with many industrial fatalities occurring on-site. As
efforts to improve construction safety intensify, modular construction has emerged as a potential solution for reducing on-site risks. Unlike
traditional methods, modular construction involves prefabricating components in a factory and assembling them on-site, reducing labor-intensive
activities and exposure to hazardous conditions. However, the use of cranes and heavy machinery during module transportation and installation
presents unique safety challenges, including falls and equipment-related accidents. To mitigate these risks, this study develops a safety
management checklist tailored to modular construction to enhance worker safety and lower accident rates. By analyzing OSHA accident data
and creating a Risk Breakdown Structure, the research identifies major hazards at different stages of the modular construction process. These
hazards are systematically organized using a Risk Breakdown Matrix to guide the checklist's development. The checklist was refined through
expert feedback and a risk assessment survey, resulting in a comprehensive tool for managing safety across transportation, hoisting,
installation, and finishing stages. This checklist offers a practical framework for proactive safety management, fostering safer environments in
modular construction projects. |
