Abstract The philosophy of Laozi(老子) including "let nature take its course " provides important ideological foundations for urban development, during China's urbanization process. Taoism advocates conforming to and respect the nature, which has a strong influence on Chinese classical gardens. Morden chinese architects studied the concept of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature in landscape paintings, then rethought the relationship people, society, and architecture. This article analyzes the impact of `Follow Nature'proposed by Laozi on Chinese Landscape Paintings, it pursues similarity between form and nature, rather than fully restoring the actual environment. In Chinese Landscape painting, 'Form' is the form of external things, 'Momentum' is the power that drives the development of things. In conclusion, the essay attempts to show Taoist thought influences architects' understanding of the relationship between 'people, architecture, cities, and nature' through landscape painting. In the process of urbanization, adaptability of the city itself and a sense of identity to the city can be found.
