Abstract This study examines Ki-in Chang’s (1916-2006) understanding of Korean architecture through the architectural terms he compiled in the late 20th century. A leading scholar in Korean architectural terminology, Chang published the Korean Architecture Dictionary in 1985 and later released the Revised Korean Architecture Dictionary in 1996. Between September 1986 and February 1995, he also published 14 articles titled Remnant (Jiseureogi) of Architectural Terminology in the Review of Architecture and Building Science (of Korea). These articles were released between the first and revised editions of the dictionary. The study follows two main directions. First, it analyzes the architectural terms presented in the 14 journal articles to understand Chang’s perception of how architectural terminology was structured during the 1990s. Second, it investigates the relevance of these serialized articles in relation to both editions of the Korean Architecture Dictionary, particularly their role in shaping or supplementing the dictionaries. Ultimately, the study highlights the evolving meanings and organization of Korean architectural terms as reflected in the work of Ki-in Chang, shedding light on the development of architectural terminology in Korea during the late 20th century.
