Abstract |
This study builds on prior research to classify timber beam-to-column connections into four categories: ESP, ISP, ESC, and SF. The failure
modes and stiffness of each connection type were analyzed. Distinct failure patterns were observed depending on the connection configuration.
In particular, ISP and ESC connections, which include embedded steel components, showed brittle failure or pull-out behavior caused by
section loss and stress concentration in the timber. These failure characteristics were also reflected in the stiffness results, with ESP and SF
connections demonstrating relatively higher stiffness than ISP and ESC. This study aims to evaluate the structural performance of timber
beam-to-column connections by analyzing their stiffness and failure modes, providing foundational data for future timber structure design.
Additionally, due to the lack of clear standards for stiffness evaluation in timber connections, there is a need to develop a formula that
allows for more quantitative assessment through further experiments and research. |
