Abstract As digital technologies continue to advance, architecture and urban design are moving beyond physical spaces and increasingly engaging with digital virtual environments. This shift presents new opportunities for virtual spaces to not only serve as alternatives to real-world destinations, but also to complement them by encouraging in-person visits. To explore this potential, persona-based scenario techniques are applied to enhance virtual representations of local attractions. This involves identifying data-driven personas that reflect the behaviors and preferences of the younger generation, followed by the development of tailored scenarios for each group. Based on these scenarios, four primary types of virtual spaces in the metaverse are proposed, each addressing different user needs. The first type, historical learning spaces, offers educational content related to historical events and locations, allowing users to gain knowledge through immersive digital experiences. The second, hidden gem spaces, introduces users to local specialties, cuisine, and natural landscapes, fostering a deeper connection between virtual exploration and real-world locations. The third, screen tourism spaces, features sites made popular through films or television, helping users recall familiar scenes and inspiring interest in visiting these places. The fourth type, shareable spaces, promotes social interaction and information exchange by allowing users to document and share their experiences after visiting. These virtual space design strategies support the creation of rich and varied spatial experiences in the metaverse. By enhancing user engagement and satisfaction, such designs can contribute meaningfully to the revitalization of local tourism.
