Abstract |
This study examines the characteristics of community space planning and operational programs in eight selected cases of social housing in
Seoul, based on a city-wide survey. While most social housing projects follow a standard format that includes features like community
rooms, shared kitchens, and living rooms, a few cases stand out for their complex spatial layouts and layered program structures designed to
meet diverse resident needs. The findings show that in housing schemes with fewer than thirty households or those made up mostly of
single-person units, spaces between units are often used as informal community areas. In contrast, projects with more than fifty households or
those intended for families of three to four people tend to place community spaces on separate floors or in designated zones. Projects
targeting specific social groups, such as young adults preparing for entrepreneurship, older residents, care leavers, or individuals with
disabilities, typically offer customized programs that support long-term goals like business development or independent living. In several cases,
cafes are operated within neighborhood facilities through leasing agreements, helping to promote interaction between residents and the
surrounding community. |
