Abstract This study examines the spatial conditions and social frameworks necessary for effectively supporting aging in place within an aging society, reinterpreted through the lens of placemaking. Focusing on Morden College in London, UK, the research identifies four key analytical dimensions: autonomous mobility and continuity of daily life, formation of social relationships, identity and psychological stability, and structures for participation and feedback. These elements are analyzed in connection with the design of elderly residential spaces, community management, identity formation, and user involvement. The case study shows that Morden College functions as a practical model for aging in place, where the physical setting, institutional structures, and social programs are closely interconnected. Based on these findings, the study suggests a shift in South Korea’s elderly housing policy toward prioritizing spatial sustainability and the everyday sense of place. It emphasizes the potential of culturally rooted residential environments to offer new directions for elder care.
