| Abstract |
This study examines the residential environment of hillside settlements through the lens of Aging in Place (AIP), focusing on Daeti Village
in Busan as a typical example of sloped housing areas. By combining field surveys with public spatial data, the research identifies physical
and non-physical challenges that limit independent living for older adults. Most areas have slopes exceeding 7 degrees, which reduces
pedestrian safety and accessibility. Handrails, lighting, and anti-slip measures are often lacking, and access to public green spaces is very
limited. Based on a spatial analysis centered on fall prevention, three improvement strategies are proposed: installing handrails and safety
features, strengthening pavements and protective structures, and enhancing nighttime lighting and access in blind spots. The study also
highlights the importance of perceived accessibility, not just physical distance, in sloped neighborhoods. This research offers AIP-based
diagnostic indicators specific to hillside settlements and suggests ways to create more elderly-friendly living environments. |
